The Talentum Learning Trust

Talentum comes together for VE Day

At the Talentum Learning Trust, we are dedicated to fostering a nurturing and inspiring environment where every learner can thrive. Our strong commitment to building a vibrant, supportive community is the heart of everything we do.

Recently, our schools came together to commemorate a significant historical event - the 80th anniversary of VE Day, marking the end of the war in Europe. This special occasion provided an opportunity for our pupils to learn about the past, celebrate the sacrifices made, and reflect on the importance of unity and resilience.

VE Day 2025

Celebrating the Anniversary

Across our trust, our schools organised a range of engaging activities to commemorate VE Day. For example:

  • All Saints First School: The children participated in a variety of VE Day-themed activities throughout the day, including a whole-school assembly led by Mrs. Mullen, followed by a picnic lunch outside. This allowed our pupils to immerse themselves in the history and spirit of the day.

  • Beresford Memorial First School: The students looked wonderful, dressed in 1940s-inspired attire, and took part in a special assembly, explored wartime artefacts, and enjoyed a traditional fish and chip lunch with Victoria Sponge cakes.

  • Blackshaw Moor First School: The parents were invited to their VE day celebrations. Refreshments were provided, funded by a grant received from Tittesworth Parish Council and the community enjoyed music and games during the afternoon.
  • Churnet View Middle School: The school is hosting a special VE Day-themed BBQ lunch, which the children are eagerly anticipating after SATs.

  • Leek First School: Pupils celebrated with a themed lunch, a VE Day-focused assembly complete with a quiz, dance lessons to learn the Lambeth Walk, poppy biscuit decorating, and a playground party with music from the wartime era. It was a day filled with learning, creativity, and community spirit.

  • Rushton First School: An assembly was held to remember the 80th anniversary of the end of WW2. This was followed by some class work with the older pupils about British Values and what they represent. The whole school community took part in two minutes silence at 12.00. A free ice cream voucher (in the form of a ration card) was presented to the pupils to take to the special VE Day event at Heaton and Swythaley Centre on Saturday to continue the community involvement.
  • Westwood First School: The children looked wonderful in red, white and blue. They had a VE Day assembly, and VE Day learning activities in class.  The all enjoyed a VE day picnic in the sunshine and learned the song, 'We'll Meet Again' which they sang at the picnic.

Upholding Our Values

These celebrations at our schools perfectly encapsulate the values that guide the Talentum Learning Trust. Our commitment to aspiration is evident in the way we encouraged our pupils to engage with history and explore the significance of VE Day. The compassion we foster was reflected in the care and attention given to creating meaningful and inclusive activities. And our unwavering integrity was demonstrated in our desire to honour the sacrifices of the past and build a brighter future.

By coming together as a trust to commemorate this important milestone, we have strengthened the bonds within our community and reaffirmed our dedication to providing a well-rounded education that prepares our students for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

A Lasting Impact

The Talentum Learning Trust is committed to creating a place where everyone flourishes, and the VE Day celebrations across our schools have left a lasting impact on our pupils. Through these meaningful experiences, we have instilled in our students a deeper appreciation for history, a sense of community, and a renewed commitment to our shared values of aspiration, compassion, and integrity.

As we move forward, we will continue to build on these moments, fostering a love of learning and a deep understanding of the world around us. Together, we will empower our students to believe in themselves, succeed in life, and aspire to be the best they can be.
